How does map positioning of a customer's address work?

When you save or edit a service address for a customer, latitude and longitude coordinates are retrieved and saved for the address via Google Maps.

When you save or edit a service address for a customer, latitude and longitude coordinates are retrieved and saved for the address via Google Maps. Whenever that customer is listed on a map or as part of a route, the retrieved latitude and longitude are used.

If the positioning or latitude/longitude of the customer does not appear to be correct on a map, there are a couple of things you can try.

1. Simply resave the customer's service address without changing anything. Occasionally Google Maps does return inconsistent geolocation information.

2. Find the official Google address of the customer, and change the customer's service address accordingly. See the help article on that subject.

3. Do a deep dive into an alternate address for the customer. Google Maps does occasionally have problems with certain types of addresses. The biggest observed inconsistency is with addresses that contain a US highway. If there is a local street name for the US highway, try the street name as an alternative.

4. If the previous steps did not work, you can input your own manual longitude and longitude in Step #1 of the Manage Customers page, which will remain established.
